This blog was made for our Gateway 3 course offered by the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon.

This blog will be focused on the effects of performance enhancers, such as energy drinks, coffee, sports drinks, nutritional supplements and more. As college students, we are reliant on these products to provide energy throughout the day and are curious what toll they take on our bodies.

Each member of our group has used these products and we hope to explore addictions, medical consequences, and the consumer market they appeal to. Is the consumption of performance enhancers a fad, and if so, what will these products do to us in the future?

We encourage to people to comment and share their thoughts! We will respond to comments in a timely manner. When making corrections to posts, we will denote the new information with an asterisk (*).

The contributors of this website are:

Kasandra Easley: I’m from the small city of Eugene, and after graduation, I’m hoping to obtain a job somewhere on the East Coast. I’m a junior currently working towards a journalism degree with a magazine focus. On campus, I write for Ethos Magazine; the University’s multi-cultural, student run publication. Outside of school I’m an avid sailor, participating on the University of Oregon’s Sailing Team.

Lindsay Walker: I am currently a junior pursuing a journalism degree with an emphasis in electronic media. After graduation I hope to obtain a job working in television or production somewhere in the Portland area. Outside of school I intern at the local radio station KDUK and I work at Kumon (a math and reading center). I enjoy spending time at home in Sherwood Oregon with my family and exploring my hobby of photography.

Tommy DeVoe: I currently a junior Advertising major at the University of Oregon, while minoring in Business and Communications. I am interested to being an advertising communicator/modifier, I enjoy communicating and interacting with each other which I believe would coincide with that such field. I am a sports nut who loves everything from lacrosse to golf, and everything in between.

Kris Cantrell:  I’m also currently a junior and an Advertising major at the U of O.  I love journalism and advertising because I can be as creative as possible.  I’m a goofy guy and always attempt to put a positive, optimistic spin on all situations.  I, like Tommy, LOVE to play and watch sports.  One of my favorite times of the year are football games at Autzen Stadium.  I’m really looking forward to learning more and more about performance enhancing drugs at the U of O.
